Thanksgiving is a time that we pause and give thanks to God, for all the blessings to which God has given to us. It doesn't take long before families start their traditions. Sometimes, as families, begin to grow and change, the traditions do as well. As I spoke yesterday in worship one of the traditions that we had in our family growing up was that each person would say what they were thankful for and we would go around the table five times.
Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2014, my husband and I were having our first Thanksgiving together as a married couple. We decided that we would like to host Thanksgiving and invite both sides of the family, and whoever came, came. As you guessed it, each of us had our own traditions, and so in preparing for Thanksgiving we each had dishes that we were responsible for. Out of our dishes we could choose one dish to make the way our family did (mine is the fruit salad), and then the rest we gathered recipes in preparation. (We also made the recipes in advance to make sure they were fit for human consumption.) From that we have now started our own Thanksgiving tradition.
What are your Thanksgiving traditions? Any funny Thanksgiving memories that you have?
May this year we pause out of our Holiday and truly give God thanks for all that God has given to us!
My husband, Allan, and I moved to Estherville in June of 2015. We are excited to be here, and to be in ministry with Estherville UMC!
