This Sunday we began our Committed to Christ: 6 Steps to a more generous life sermon series. Our adult Bible Study is also discussing the material as we go (they meet at 10:35am), and there is still room! This week is about prayer. Sometimes we make prayer out to be this major thing, when in reality it is talking to God, like you would any other friend or family member whom you seek guidance from. Spending time in prayer daily with God allows us to become closer to God. It doesn't mean that we have spend hours upon hours in prayer, or even an hour, but it does mean that spending time daily in prayer, will strengthen our relationship with God. When I was in college I participated in a Bible Study on prayer, and one of the things that was encourage was that any time you enter a new room, that as you grab the door handle, and enter that you say a little prayer. It could be for the professor, the other students, the subject matter, whatever, but by doing this it created a habit for us. I would ask when was the last time you prayed to God other than at a meal? Our prayers don't have to be long, and don't have to have long words, but God does seek to have a relationship with him. Will you commit to spending more time in prayer this week?
As a part of this study we will have short little devotions on our Facebook page and prayers on our twitter account.
My husband, Allan, and I moved to Estherville in June of 2015. We are excited to be here, and to be in ministry with Estherville UMC!
